The Council of the Township of O’Connor would like to make residents aware of the  recent request made to Council from the NorthWestern Ontario Recreational Trails  Association (NWORTA). The request came in two parts as they are proposing two different trails.

Part 1 Phase I Shabaqua Trail connection from Sovereign Road to Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park.  The request is asking Council for approval to access Sovereign Road, Smart Road, and Loghrin Road to form an interim trail connection between Fleming Road and Kakabeka Falls.

Part 2 Phase II Kakabeka Falls Trail connection from  Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park to the City of Thunder Bay via Harstone Road.  The request is asking Council for approval for access to Luckens Road from Highway 590 to the Oliver Paipoonge/O’Connor Township boundary.

The first request will finalize (on an interim basis) the  entire Phase I Shabaqua Trail route. The second request will form part of the proposed Phase II Kakabeka Falls Trail which is intended to connect Kakabeka Falls to Fort William Historical Park in Thunder Bay.  Council would like to encourage residents to attend one of the information sessions listed here to hear more about the trail system and provide your input..
